12-30-09 update- the program is finally starting. Read my new post with the details HERE.
Coming soon- “clunkers for kitchens” for appliances. Unlike “Cash for Clunkers”, you do not have to trade in your old appliance, but you have to purchase a new one that is Energy Star rated. HERE is a list of Energy Star appliances.
The program has not yet begun, but the talk is that rebates of $50 to $250 will be available this fall . If you are thinking about purchasing a new appliance, hold off for another month or so, until the details are announced.
HERE is an update:
Details about the ENERGY STAR appliance rebates will not be available until late 2009. This FAQ will be updated as soon as more information is available – Click the blue box below to be automatically notified when more information is available.
Questions specific to appliance rebates can be directed to the DOE Recovery Act Clearinghouse at 1-888-DOE-RCVY (1-888-363-7289).
The “Stimulus Bill” (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) provided $300 million to states for consumer rebates on the following ENERGY STAR qualified appliances:
- central air conditioners
- heat pumps (air source and geothermal)
- boilers
- furnaces (oil and gas)
- room air conditioners
- clothes washers
- dishwashers
- refrigerators/freezers
- water heaters
Each state will develop its own rebate program, and has the flexibility to select which appliances to include and what rebate amounts to offer.
State plans were due to DOE by October 15, 2009. It will take DOE several weeks to process all of the applications. Once approved, and the funds are disbursed, states can begin to roll out their programs. Rebates could be available for consumers by late 2009 or early 2010, though this will vary by state. Are these rebates retroactive?
Amounts commonly offered range from $50 to $250, depending upon the product being purchased, purchase price, and other market factors. Federal tax credits and other financial incentives may be claimed for the same products, as long as they qualify under the rules of the programs and are not specifically excluded.
More With Less Today comments- I have been checking and rechecking to see when this rebate will be finanlized. You can type in your email in my subscription box and you will be notified automatically as soon as I can get more information.
HERE is the link to the Energy Star appliances that have rebates and discounts now.
I would do my research now and be ready to purchase as soon as “Cash for Appliances” is announced.
