Here is a money-saving tip from Consumer Reports Magazine. Change your font and save money on printing costs.

According to Consumer Reports, Times New Roman uses 27% more ink than Arial or Calibri. Century Gothic is also a popular thrifty. The University of Wisconsin, Green Bay has cut their printing costs by having everyone in their e-mail system switch from Arial to Century Gothic. The school claims that they will save 30% on their printing costs. Other ink hogs are Tahoma, Franklin, Gothic Medium and Verdana.

Use the print preview feature before you print, to avoid printing pages unneccsarily.

A font with “light” or “narrow” in the name generally uses half the ink that a “bold” font, according to Thom Brown, an ink researcher at Hewlett Packard. Serif fonts tend to use thinner lines and thus less ink than a sans serif font.
