CVS Pharmacy – money saving tips

Here are some money saving and time saving tips for using the CVS pharmacy for your prescriptions and OTC medications.

1. CVS Pharmacy will accept the “transfer your prescription” coupons from competitors. In my Sunday circular, there were 4 $25 gift cards to Rite Aid to transfer a prescription. I am told that CVS will accept these. Use them one transaction at a time if you want to transfer more than 1 prescription.

Often you can find  pharmacy transfer coupons in the Target circulars in the Sunday paper. Right now, Target Pharmacy is featuring a FREE $10 Gift Card with purchase of any new or transferred prescription. I called my local CVS Pharmacy and spoke with the  manager today and she told me that CVS will accept this Target Pharmacy coupon and give you a $10 CVS gift card.

*Target WILL NOTaccept competitors transfer coupons, ie. Target Pharmacy will not accept CVS $25.00  transfer your prescription coupons but MAY match the price of a prescription, but this is at the discretion of the individual pharmacies.

2. CVS Pharmacywill rebate back $1.00 for every 2 prescriptions you fill or refill. These rebates (ExtraCare Bucks) are printed out at the bottom of your CVS receipt quarterly and it happens automatically after you scan your CVS card and pay for your purchase. These can be used like cash to buy almost any item in the store. I keep mine in a CVS envelope and note the expiration date on the outside.

3. Go to CVS.com and sign up to receive email. You will often get EXTRA coupons sent to you by email that you can print out and use in the store or online at CVS.com. I was sent a coupon for $5.00 off  of a $30.00 purchase today. These email coupons have a short expiration date, mine expires in 3 days.

4. If you just ASK about automatic refills at the CVS Pharmacy counter, they will give you a coupon book with $25.00 worth of coupons inside. The first coupon is for $4.00 off a purchase of $20.00 or more. The offer is valid while supplies last and these coupons expire on September 12, 2009.

5. Previously, I wrote about two sites that offer coupons for prescription drugs, you can see my article here. Those websites are Internet Drug Coupons and Drugzoo. CVS will accept these Internet coupons, so check these sites first.

6. Save your CVS receipts and submit them for rebates to The Caregivers Marketplace. You can read all about their free program here. They offer rebates for OTC medications and products and also offer diaper rebates.
