Help Abraham Teferi-LA Fans Destroyed his Taxi

(photo from LA Fire Department footage)
After the Laker win on Thursday, out of control Laker “fans” burned this man’s taxi and took away his ability to make a living. I was shaking my head in disbelief and sadness as I watched the story on the news .

I decided to ask my readers to join me in sending this man, Abraham Teferi, a check for $1.oo, $5.00 or any amount. Imagine if thousands of readers participated in this small, random act of kindness for a stranger. I want for him to know that people care.

Growing up, my mom would help as many people as she could and I remember her saying, “I could only send a few dollars, but I wanted to do something.”

As I watched the news video, I could see the name and phone number of the taxi as it was burning. I tracked down Independent Cab Co. in Los Angeles and called the number and spoke with the receptionist. She verified that Abraham would receive the checks here:

Abraham Teferi c/o Independent Cab Co., 700 N. Virgil Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90029

If you want, you can include a copy of this blog post or a note mentioning More With Less Today, you can. A note of encouragement will be uplifting for him. As I understand, Mr. Teferi has only been in this country for 7 months and is just trying to make a living.

*Update- the company that owns the Staples Center is giving Mr. Teferi a check for $10,000, great news!

If I get any feedback from Abraham or the cab company, I can post it here. I am not doing this for recognition, I simply want to tap into the collective power of the web and help to make this right for Abraham.

I have a category on my site “Giving Back & Helping Others.” As these opportunities arise, let me know and we can help others like  Abraham with “a few dollars” and use the power of social networking to directly help someone in need. Don’t forget to get the kids involved. As my mom demonstrated to me, our children watch what we do, and remember.

You made an error in the address. It’s not 700 N. Birgil…it’s 700 N. Virgil. You should correct it as the wrong address is spreading. Thanks for doing this for this man.

Thanks for locating and posting this information. I saw the story on Abraham and agree that this guy is deserving of a little help and that we should get behind him.

My wife and I are sending a nice check to him c/o the cab company you listed.

What an awesome idea, Lori! You are such a role model on how to give back from our abundance — no matter how much or how little we have, we can always spare a bit for others less advantaged!

Thanks for posting this — I’m going to share this with family and friends.

    Blessings,
    Mary

He has to have insurance to own a taxi business so hopefully the insurance company will fairly replace his taxi/livihood and the generosity of others will help him stay afloat while everything is being put back in place. In him humbleness, may his blessings be twofold. Shame on the hooligans who do nothing but take from others!
