Kindle Price Protection Policy at Amazon.com

Price Protection Policy on the Amazon Kindle – July, 10th 2009.

update June 21, 2010, Amazon has dropped the price to $189.

I purchased a Kindle on June 19, 2009 as a graduation present for my daughter and  paid $359.00. She did not want the new version, the Kindle DX because it was too large to fit in a purse and portability was one of the main attractions, (the price of the  Kindle DX is $489.00).

Yesterday, I read that Amazon.com dropped the price to $299.00 so I called and inquired about getting a credit for the difference. My expectations were not high as Amazon.com discontinued their price protection policy last year. ( To read my article about Price Protection Policies at other major retailers, CLICK  HERE ).

I called customer service and was re-routed to Kindle customer service. In about 30 seconds, $60.00 was credited back to my credit card. Hurray for Amazon.com! As we tell our children, be polite and it never hurts to ask!

My daughter is going to be an English major in college with lots of classic books to read. One of the features of the Kindle that I love is the ability to convert a book to an audio book with the the click of a button. She can listen to her books while commuting or laying in bed without disturbing her roommate.

If you are have not yet seen a Kindle in action, here are the details and HERE is the link to the Kindle store:

The version I bought is smaller than a paperback. You can download books for $9.99 or less (all best sellers are $9.99) in 60 seconds. You can download the first chapter for free to see if you want to purchase the book. Her Kindle holds 1,500 books and once you download a book, you can erase it to make more room and Amazon.com will not charge you to re-download it again in the future. There are 300,000 books to choose from (and growing) along with US and International newspapers (range from $5.99-$14.99 for a subscription) and magazines (range from $1.25 – $3.49 for a subscription), both come with a two-week free trial.

Barnes & Noble now offers more than 700,000 e-books that you can download to your iPhone, iPod touch, Blackberry, PC or MAC. You can read the details HERE.
