Happy National Ice Cream Day or month? I poked around to find any discount, freebies and specials because at More With Less Today, free is the best price! Be sure any check out my CATEGORY “Free stuff!”
2010 update- I could not find any major ice cream retailers offering discounts. I am still looking! I did find two discounts at Coupons.com that you can print and use. There is a $1.00 off coupon for Jamba Fruit Sorbet Bars & $1.00 off Lactaid Ice Cream. At Coupons.com, sort by “food” to narrow down all the choices.
Dippin’ Dots will give out FREE reusable travel mugs to the first 100 people that join the 40 Below Zero Club on National Ice Cream Day on July 18th. You can also join the 40 Below Zero Club online on July 18th and be eligible for the free gift. Joining the eClub will give you future coupons and discounts. Find locations HERE.
Ben & Jerry’s “Scoop It Forward” sign up to volunteer at VolunteerMatch.org before 12/31/10 and get a coupon for free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream via email. You can redeem the coupon at Target for the Berry Voluntary and Brownie Chew Gooder flavors. You can also forward the coupon to 5 friends.
Parade Magazine – on Sunday, 7/18/10, look for a coupon for a free McDonald’s 12 oz Frappe or Real Fruit Smoothie (my coupon was toward the back.)

Here is a yummy recipe for homemade Chocolate Ice Cream from Melody, one of my Facebook friends: (“like” More With Less Today on Facebook for more great ideas)
Make summertime the perfect time for chocolate.. especially Chocolate Ice Cream! Don’t your taste buds just scream “Yum” by looking at it?
Ingredients:
3 large eggs
2 large egg yolks
1 cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1¾ cup heavy cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ cup DCD Cocoa Powder
6 oz (3 bars) DCD Chef Series
Dark Chocolate, melted
Optional: Dress it with DCD Toppings
1 cup DCD Milk Chocolate covered
Cappuccino Biscottini, chopped
½ cup DCD Merlot Fudge Sauce
½ cup DCD Chardonnay Caramel Sauce
Directions:
1. Prepare a double boiler on medium heat.
2. Pour eggs, egg yolks, sugar, and salt into
the bowl, and begin whisking until
mixture is thick, pale, and coats a spoon
(about 5-7 minutes). Be careful not to
overcook. Remove bowl from saucepan,
and let cool slightly.
3. In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer
to whip cream, vanilla and cocoa powder
to stiff peaks. Stir in melted chocolate.
4. Add a third of the chocolate whipped
cream to egg mixture and mix thoroughly.
Gently whisk in remaining whipped
cream, until just combined.
5. Pour mixture into a 9×13-inch glass
baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap and
then aluminum foil. Freeze undisturbed
for 3-4 hours. Scoop into ½ cup servings
and serve with a sprinkle of DCD
Biscottini and a drizzle of Merlot Fudge or
Chardonnay Caramel Sauce, if desired.
