Local mom creates one-stop spot for tips on savings

Lori Felix wants you and your friends to save money.

The Yorba Linda woman is getting some media attention for her fast-growing blog, www.morewithlesstoday.com, which recently was mentioned on an ABC affiliate in Utah and in Newsday in New York.

The concept of Felix’s blog, launched in January, is friends sharing tips to save money and help each other through tough times.

“I needed a hobby,” Felix said. “It can’t be shopping anymore.”

Felix posts extensively about such varied topics as tips for grocery shopping, selling unwanted items and inexpensive gift ideas.

Like many people, she was motivated, in part, by her financial situation.

About seven years ago, her husband left a company where he has worked for more than 25 years. He is an investment advisor. During the transition, the couple’s income dropped substantially. At the time, Felix was a stay-at-home mother (the couple have a son, 27, and a daughter, 18) and she wanted to remain so for a few more years.

“I began to look for ways to cut our expenses and started quite a collection of articles that I ripped out of magazines and newspapers,” she says.

Felix, 51, decided to assemble those articles into a blog to access them and share with others.

“I am hearing from savers all over the country and I am sharing their good ideas as well,” Felix says. “Somehow, it just feels better to help each other rather than feel like you are the only one going through uncertain times.”
