You might save money by pricing your airline tickets separately. According to David Bach, author of “Fight For Your Money”, a recent search for flights for a family of four were priced as follows:
From New York to Los Angeles – 4 tickets priced separately were $344 each.
Four tickets purchased together were $2,476 or $619 each. It is at least worth pricing the tickets both ways to see if there is a difference.
It will require some gymnastics to get all 4 people sitting together. You can ask the reservation agent to list the TCP codes in the comment section of each ticket-TCP is airline lingo for “To Complete a Party”.
You should arrive at the gate early to ask the gate agent to assign your seats together and you may have to split up your party.
Here is an article I wrote on Feb. 18th called “Cheap Flights” which lists some websites to help you get the best price on your tickets.
