Spirit of America-Troops Helping Local People

The Spirit of America  assists our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa by providing items for our troops to distribute to the local people like toothbrushes and soccer balls.  By meeting these needs, relations with locals are improved and this helps to keep out troops safer.

There is a poignant story on their website called “How a pair of sandals can save lives.” The goods that the troops provide to the locals reduce hostilities, and reducing hostility saves lives.

Some of the ongoing projects  from the Spirit of America  website are providing blankets for the winter, school supplies, sports gear and donations to buy sewing supplies to help empower Afghan women.

The Spirit of America  is a 501c# non-profit supported only through private  donations. Their mission is to  support our troops, help people who have suffered from repression, terrorism and war and to advance freedom and peace.

The organization has no political agenda or ideology. They simply exist to help people and they would welcome your involvement.

I read about Spirit of America today in the LA Times in a story by Sandy Banks.  I look forward to her Saturday column every week.  She is a gifted writer with an eye on the downtrodden and disenfranchised.  Here is her link at the LA Times.
